As per the Official Reports, China is fastly turning into an aging society as the number of people aged 60 and above has reached 241 million and which accounts for 17.3% of the total population of China.

According to the deputy director of the National Working Commission Wu Yushao the Society which has 10% of its population aged 60 or older can be referred to as an “aging society”.
We also said that since China first became an aging society in 1999, the number of people aged 60 or above has seen an increase of 110 million.
By 2050 it is estimated that the number of senior or aged people will going to rise and will reach to 487 million accounting 34.9% of the total population of China.
One of the prime reason for the growth of large old age population is the three decades old one-child] policy.

From 2016 onwards China had permitted the couples to have two children by dismissing the one-child] policy.

The Govt has also stepped up various programs and initiatives nationwide to educate the people’s on aging with the aim to raise citizens’ awareness and also called on the public to care for the elderly or aged people.

Whereas the Local governments are required to improve working mechanisms for promoting aging-related education, which has been incorporated into the annual work plans and performance evaluations of local government of China.
