On the Christmas eve there was a close finish but no thrill. India beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third and final T20 to round off the series and the year in style. As the hosts take the trophy home with the whole series in a sweep.
India had Sri Lanka struggling, after Rohit Sharma had put the Lankans in to bat at the Wankhede Stadium, with the score reading 85/6 after 13 overs.
A good partnership by Asela Gunaratne and Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka reached to 135.
With a low total to chase, all India had to do was hold it out without making any silly mistakes and that is what the hosts did for the most part.
After they had bagged the wickets of openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. It looks like they can send the Indian batsmen to pavilion but Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey’s stand took the game completely away from Sri Lanka’s desperate attempt of grasping it.
On Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium with the Indian team all set to depart for yet another South African tour, the 26-year-old Jaydev Unadkat displayed just how far he’s grown as a bowler, in the shorter formats anyway, with a spell of incisive deception and figures of 2/15 in 4 overs. It ensured that he finished the T20 series against Sri Lanka with remarkable numbers — 4 wickets at 11 and an extraordinary T20 economy rate of 4.88.
India’s winning margin of 3-0 is their biggest series victory vs Sri Lanka in T20 Internationals. For the second time, they have won all three matches in a bilateral series — the first instance being against Australia in Australia in January 2016.
As India finished off the year in style- with a five wicket win at the Wankhede stadium to inflict a clean sweep on Sri Lanka.
