MARY KOM WINS GOLD AT ASIAN WOMEN’S BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

Indian Boxing Legend and Parliamentarian, Mary Kom (48kg) bagged the clinched the 5th Gold Medal while Sonia Lather(57kg) went for Silver in Asian Women’s Boxing Championship.
Mary Kom who was playing against North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi, the Olympic bronze medallist and World Champion won unanimously won another Gold medal in her pocket. But Sonia who was Silver-Medallist in World Championship went for the runner’s up position and gained 2nd spot in the tournament.
Indian Team overall was overall able to win 1 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals at the mini continental world championship.
After a 2014 Asian Games, this was Mary Kom’s 1st Gold Medal in over a year. With this event, she kept her winning and excellent record at the event, having being too final in all of the appearances. After the win Mary Kom said that she was happy the way things worked out for her in championship. She further said that “I would like to dedicate this victory to people who have supported me all over when the world had written me off. I would like to thank my coaching staff who has supported me all over”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Sports Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore tweeted and congratulated Mary Kom on her success. Prime Minister in his tweet said that “Congratulations Mary Kom for winning Gold at ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championship. India is very proud of your achievement”.
