On Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi had discussed many ways to create economic opportunities for a new generation of micro-entrepreneurs and help India become a $ 5trillion economy by 2025.
He further said, “To be an entrepreneur at scale is a skill that hopefully I can find as I take over Uber and look to scale and take it forward.
Khosrowshahi was on his first visit to India during February. He met Modi at the Economic Times Global Business Summit. He also emphasized the importance of India to Uber’s ride sharing and food delivery business as well as a source for teaching talent.
In five years, Uber, which dispatches low-cost taxis and limousines operated by independent drivers, is likely the fastest-growing startup in history. It has more than 1 million active drivers—meaning they did at least one trip in the past week—operating in 330 cities (as of mid-August) and a valuation of $51 billion, which is roughly equivalent to the market capitalization of General Motors.
The transportation service has become a global brand, an economic force, and a cultural lightning rod.
He said that hiring local engineers to build products for India that can then be exported to other fast-growing markets is a key focus in 2018 and beyond.
